Clinical and Research Activities

Modern Craniofacial Surgery: Science and Innovation.

Prof. Krzysztof Dowgierd’s work focuses on the treatment of complex craniofacial defects, the development of innovative surgical techniques, and research in the field of reconstructive surgery. His clinical work is complemented by academic activities, innovative projects, and collaboration with medical centers both in Poland and abroad.

Prof. Krzysztof Dowgierd is a pioneer in the comprehensive, team-based approach to treating craniofacial anomalies in children, as well as in the comprehensive treatment of trauma, cancer, and other maxillofacial conditions in adults. He is a recognized expert in craniofacial reconstruction in both children and adults.

Prof. Krzysztof Dowgierd’s research focuses on modern maxillofacial surgery in pediatric patients. Specifically, his work covers mandibular and maxillary reconstruction, orthognathic surgery for complex malocclusions, reconstructive microsurgery, and the treatment of temporomandibular joint disorders.

A key focus of his research is the development and implementation of technologies that support surgical planning. In his work, he utilizes, among other things, 3D virtual planning, advanced imaging technologies, and patient-specific implants. These solutions help increase the precision of procedures and improve treatment outcomes in complex craniofacial defects.

He earned his postdoctoral degree in 2024. That same year, he was appointed professor at the University of Warmia and Mazury within the Collegium Medicum.

For many years, he has been involved in teaching and training, contributing to the education of medical students and the professional development of junior specialists in maxillofacial surgery. He also organizes scientific and training events in Olsztyn.

Among the initiatives he has launched are nationwide conferences on the treatment of craniofacial anomalies, including a scientific and training conference on cleft lip and palate and the “Difficult Cases” conference (2025). These events serve to facilitate the exchange of clinical experiences and promote modern treatment standards in maxillofacial surgery.

Prof. Krzysztof Dowgierd is also actively involved in the development of innovations in medicine. Since 2024, he has been a member of the Program Council and the Jury for the Mother and Child Startup Challenge, where he assists in the evaluation of technology projects and their practical implementation in healthcare.

His research and organizational activities focus on creating the conditions necessary for the development of modern maxillofacial surgery in Poland, as well as on integrating clinical practice with scientific research and technological innovations.

Original research initiatives

Research and educational projects focused on the development of modern diagnostic and treatment methods in maxillofacial surgery.

An advanced clinical course focused on the planning and management of orthognathic treatment, combining surgical and orthodontic knowledge with case studies and a practical approach to the comprehensive treatment of craniofacial anomalies.

OFMS Conference

Diagnostics and Digital Solutions in Maxillofacial Surgery. This edition will focus on modern diagnostic methods and the use of digital tools in treatment planning and management in maxillofacial surgery and head and neck surgery. We will pay particular attention to the integration of imaging, surgical planning, navigation, and technologies that support clinical decision-making.
